You like to what?!

University of Cincinnati fun day
July 28, 2014

Hey Family! There is some fun going on this week but we will be hitting up exchanges to train some Elders and make some good memories! We have leadership council this week too and don't worry mom, I have not forgot to throw up a heart sign for you in one of the pictures :)

So the biggest thing going on in my life is kind of astounding me...

I have found out that I like to work...

Never in my life did I think that would come to pass! There is satisfaction and happiness that comes from working that doesn't come from anything else. I imagine myself back home driving a sick Subaru WRX listening to some Foster the People and Yellowcard or playing my beloved Call of Duty. But it just doesn't appeal to me the way that going out on the job does. I am understanding God a little more each week. I feel like I can see my dad smiling from here... haha It took long enough I know ;)

Things here in Western Hills are just going fabulously! People that we are teaching are coming up to baptism and two of our good friends are fighting through Satan's tactics to be baptized in their pool this Friday. It has taken a year of President Porter's friendship and support from the ward, but they're going to make it and boy are they ready! I love this couple so much, they are actually the same age as you mom and dad!

Transfers are next week so things are going to be good there and life will continue to roll on! Changes are always fun but luckily I see all of the changes before hand ;) Elder Martin has one transfer left so there will be fireworks to go out with a bang! Speaking of which not much went down on Pioneer day. haha.
Two words: held a chicken ;)

All of the Sisters that were in the MTC [with me] are going home in the next week or so. That is pretty bonkers. I am almost on the last lap of the track!

I'll get some pictures to you all later when I am on a desktop!

Love,
Elder Fivas

I Found Krispy Kreme!

Elder Arveseth was
Brayden's First Companion
July 21, 2014

I am so glad you went to see my good buddy's homecoming!! Elder Arveseth is a champ!

I am continuing to learn and grow out here which is always good. My companion Elder Martin sure makes it easy to have a great time in the mission field. It's nice to have such a great companion. I really have been blessed my whole mission.

[Do you still sneak in service opportunities.  What has been your most memorable service opportunity?] I actually do a lot of service which is good! We have been pulling weeds lately which is actually quite fun out here. The soil is really soft for the most part and I feel like a man when I rip out a gnarly plant. One of the service projects I really remember though is when I learned how to clip hedges clear back when I was in Miami River 2. Ironically that was with Elder Arveseth.

[Does your mission have a no caffeine rule?  What are some mission rules you do have.] Our mission doesn't have a no caffeine rule. However we do have a couple of rules that resemble the laws of Moses because some Elders and Sisters were getting too lax. We can't have energy drinks, there are NO sleepovers or P-day eves, we can only listen to music off of LDS.org, and we cannot go to places like Buffalo Wild Wings. There might be others but that's what I remember right now. It's pretty much natural to me now. Elder Martin and I have tried to "bury the man" (Romans 6) that sings worldly songs. So I feel like when I get back I will feel bad for singing haha

Speaking of singing, we have started to sing hymns for our investigators at the beginning of lessons to point out the Spirit and it has been successful. Fun fact.

[When you do eat at home, what do you usually fix to eat?] I usually eat a peanut butter and jelly when I fix something at home. I eat out a lot and I LOVE it :P

[Tell us an experience you had this week.] President took us to a Thai restaurant and that was great :)  We finished up with interviews with the whole mission so I know everyone better now. Oh which reminds me when I was in the Middletown zone....
I FOUND THE ONE KRISPY KREME FACTORY IN OUR MISSION!! I didn't know there was one in our boundaries. I figured the closest one was in Columbus but no, we're good.

[Why are all your pics taken in the truck? ;)] I spend more time in the truck than I do in the apartment quite simply... :P

Apple Pie Goodness

July 14, 2014

Hey super parents of awesomeness and apple pie goodness!

Monday morning meetings/pancakes
with President Porter
[I'm bummed that your 4th of July package got to you a day late!  I have no idea why it was bounced around Cincinnati. Do you know why it was forwarded?] So I have 0 idea why the package was late but it still sure pulled on my heart strings. Thoughtful gifts that mean things to me like little apple pies just give me joy like nothing else does. Recently Elder Stoddard sent me a bag of Doritos and I just thought that was so awesome (and delicious). I think that guy is pretty swell! I still plan on watching Back to the Future with him when I get back. Anyway, I plan on using all of the fun stuff on July 24th.

[What did you do this week that was out of the ordinary routine?] So out of the ordinary routine this week was what we did on the 4th of July! I would like to mention that we had another baptism as well ;) There are so many good things going on in the ward here! Plus this place is geographically the bomb too because it has everything!

New Khaki pants
[What is your Standard of Excellence?] The standard of excellence here for leadership here is 2 people at church, 4 new investigators, and 4 member present [at a lesson] and at least 20 overall lessons [each week].

[Do you still email progress reports to President?] I talk to President Porter all the time so he said that I am welcome to email him if I want :P

[What did you do on the 4th of July?] The 4th of July was crazy awesome because we found so many people as a mission! We went to parks and parades and drew the plan of salvation in chalk all over ground and we talked to soo many people. It was a blast! Then we finished with watching fireworks at President's house.

[Last week we didn't get a letter.] So last week the power went out and I never could hit send :( So I had this letter for you but we went to Eastgate to a zone fun day. And then we had interviews all day on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday which was a blast and then we focused on hitting standards of excellence in three days... which we did ;)

Sorry I didn't make it happen :( I loved your letters though! I always enjoy seeing pictures of Logan and reading how my friends are doing. I have a lot going home really soon. All of the sisters in the MTC with me are going home this transfer.
Muncie Island!

Anyway, I am heading to Kentucky for some more fun but I'll try to make it back to email more!!

[Taylor Johansen received his call to the Samoa Apia Mission. Samoan speaking. Reporting October 8th.]  I am pumped for the soon to be Elder Johansen. The Samoan Elder and Sister here are so cool and remember, the first person I played a big part in baptizing was Samoan,[Dak].

Here are some pictures!
