Responsibilities of an Assistant to the President

May 26, 2014

Hey family of mine!!

So I love the Western Hills Ward and I can't believe how much of it I remember from my second week in the field.

Elder Fivas and Elder Martin
Some of the best news this week is that I finally got a hold of some fingernail clippers because mine were getting monstrous. Also the Memorial Day ward picnic went fantastically well. We found some awesome black ladies out in Westwood that gave us some soul food to chow on later after we taught them.

I am having a lot of fun! My body and mind is having a hard time keeping up with all of the miracles and sacrifices of being an Assistant. Our preparation days aren't the same or quite as long so that's a bit of a bummer because my body is screaming for rest but I really don't have time for that :P

Elder Benavides
Elder Benavides has been in his new Spanish Branch with awesome Elder Thompson since about 3 days of being with us so Elder Martin and I have been going around taking care of this area and the mission with God's grace. It's phenomenal to be a part of. It is so much fun to see President and Sister Porter so much! They do some way funny things.

The responsibilities of the Assistants are to help the Mission President in his responsibilities as the lead trainer of the mission. We analyze the numbers together, we bolster up companionships, we train in many conferences, we run errands, we are still to hit the standard of Excellence in our own area, and we inspire and motivate. It is a lot to do so I am busy but I sure love meeting all of the missionaries and being here in Western Hills. Plus we drive a pretty big Silverado as a perk ;)

Elder Martin is such a sweet guy and I can see no flaws in him. We have a lot of fun together. We got doubled in together and we are doing the best I have ever seen in following the Spirit and qualifying for grace. He leaves in September. So I have some time with him still ;)

I received your letters and I loved them! That is very sweet that Sister Rodeman [from his last area] would think of me like that. [World got back that to us that she felt like one of her sons had left]. I have thought about her more than once down here. But tomorrow I am going up to Muncie for zone conferences!

Sorry I don't have much time for details :P

I love this work more than ever and I am more tired than ever!!
Love, Elder Fivas

Leadership Council
So my new area is keeping me so busy! I love my new companion Elder Martin! I am in a bit of a tripanionship too with Elder Benavides! So I am back in the Nasty Nati in Western Hills which is super dooper awesome! I served here for a week with Elder Beverly in the second week in the mission field. I remember a lot of the members and they recognized me. It is where I took the picture of me holding out my hand and you see the skyline of the city in the back ground. I want to tell you how transfers went.

Elder Bell (the assistant that finished his mission) was up calling the transfers and the zone leader areas were getting filled more and more as time went by. I thought that I might be going to Kentucky because we were going down the line and we stopped in the Cincinnati West zone. Elder Bell called out Western Hills 1 area, "Doubled in as new assistants, Elder Martin and Elder Fivas!" The chapel got pretty rowdy hahaha. I couldn't believe it but I got up and embraced my new companion who I already knew was awesome and went up to hug Elder Benavides who was the Assistant still serving for one more transfer. So I sat next to Elder Martin up on the stand with President Porter. It's so crazy to be here but I love it! So I have no routine yet because I am running around learning all sorts of things. I am so excited to see all of the mission!! Anyway, here is my address. 5311 Lee's Crossing Drive Apt 2 Cincinnati OH 45211

I am very busy now so I should be able to email you more next week with pictures and such but just know I have never had this much fun in one week on my mission yet. Elder Benavides actually was transferred into a Spanish area for his last transfer to learn Spanish. He is half Mexican so he picks it up fast. Elder Martin is a runner from Taylorsville and he ran at SUU. He is super awesome and life is so good and so new!!

Love you tons!

I can't believe I am an assistant!

Mothers' Day was so awesome!

This is me and the pig
at one of our investigators' house.
I am very glad the FaceTime thing worked as well. I was super worried it would be all glitchy or what not. I loved to see what my family was like again. Everything was comfortable and familiar.

Unfortunately for me I am getting transferred away from this run down city that I love. There are so many people that I will miss from here. I guess that's what happens in your longest area of your mission. 6 months goes much faster than I thought. I have a shot to go be with Elder Stoddard in Hebron, Kentucky though ;) Nobody but God knows what's going on in a transfer :P
Me and super Nate Ralston
Me and Bobbie

Send me those pictures! I have to go say goodbye to a lot of people...

I love you all!

Buenos Dias Familia Miya!

We had stake conference yesterday and that was awesome! This last week has been another great one and we continue to see success. I went on exchanges with Elder Leaupepe and was on a bike for half of the day and man did I look good ;P
Elder Leaupepe and his bike

Bryan Porter (President's son) spent the night with us and that was super fun once again. President gave us some chips and salsa to party with on the way home from Muncie.

District activity
Today we are having a nerf war as a zone and so I don't have much time. Things are going to be so much fun! Plus we have leadership council tomorrow! Always a party.
Elders Bradshaw, Chen, Fivas, Judd

I can't wait for Mothers' Day this weekend to call you all! I have no idea the specifics on what's going to happen but just be ready ;) When is church for you though so I don't call you then?

The weather has been stormy but it's supposed to be great this week.

Transfers are next week. I really don't want to leave this place. The more I am here the more I love the people. That includes the whole stake! At stake conference I was running around saying hi to ere'body!

The work here is good and we continue to help people move towards baptism and the temple!

Finally happy birthday to Sadie on Sunday!!

I love you all!
